PRO TIP:

When evaluating whether a mentor would be a good match for your student keep in mind that the greatest leading indicator of success is how well a mentor and their mentee get along.

Questions to ask yourself:

  • Would the student find this person inspiring?
  • Do they share any interests, hobbies, or lived experiences?

Abigayle P. (IN A NUTSHELL)

Abigayle is a 4th year at Western Washington University studying Computer Science under the interdisciplinary Honors College and in the inaugural NSF Scholars cohort. She has a unique blend of technical expertise, curiosity, and empathy for others as she leads the creation of human-centric, AI-assisted products.
She built Magnify Wellness, an iOS and Android mobile app that connects underserved youth to mental health support with guidance from Stanford Medicine professor. After receiving positive feedback, she decided to continue her impact by starting a nonprofit with additional opportunities for youth (ambassador, chapter clubs, mentorship, online communities, etc.). This experience launched her into the world of entrepreneurship and technology as a Product Manager where she has worked in numerous startups ranging from blockchain to education technology.
To give back, she volunteers & serves as an ambassador at multiple organizations for children in-need and to help other women thrive in the tech industry.
For fun, Abigayle enjoys playing Nintendo video games with her 5 younger sisters, listening to orchestral music, and playing badminton recreationally (NOT professionally).

WHY THIS MATTERS:

Our mentorship sessions happen virtually over Zoom. It’s important to get a sense of how someone’s personality can come through on a video call. The best way to ensure your student is excited about learning is to have someone on the other side that they look forward to talking to.

Western Washington University

GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT (SO FAR)

I won a grant to support the creation of my nonprofit's chapter club program with an authored mental health journal, leading to 80+ created clubs and positive feedback from the leaders. If you are interested in learning more, check out magnifywellness.org
