PRO TIP:

When evaluating whether a mentor would be a good match for your student keep in mind that the greatest leading indicator of success is how well a mentor and their mentee get along.

Questions to ask yourself:

  • Would the student find this person inspiring?
  • Do they share any interests, hobbies, or lived experiences?

Adam S. (IN A NUTSHELL)

Adam is a student at Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations (ILR). With interests in law, journalism, and sustainability, he explores these passions by authoring articles on these topics and engaging in open dialogue with peers. As an experienced writer and pre-law student, Adam is very involved on Cornell’s campus and never hesitates to take advantage of exposure to the pre-professional atmosphere.

Adam publishes his column titled “My Two-Sents” for the Cornell Daily Sun discussing workplace injustices under unlawful conduct, his experience as an undergraduate student, and the agricultural landscape of America.

In his first year, he served as a peer mentor for the ILR Student Government Organization, acts as an ILR Admissions Ambassador, is an active brother and VP of Programming for Phi Alpha Delta pre-law fraternity, manages the Cornell Wardrobe as the VP of Internal Relations and recently completed the Cornell Law School Diversity Matters Outreach Program.

This summer Adam is a High Road Fellow working for an organization known as Partnership for the Public Good (PPG) in Buffalo, NY. He is working with PPG to research local policy, update founding principles, and focus on civic engagement.

He previously led a transportation project team at the Farmlink Project and gathered historical data on past surplus produce deals, focusing on coverage analysis, price comparisons, and lane mapping.

As a mentor at Curious Adam’s teaching style is receptive, organized, and thought-provoking. His main goal is to help mentees find a new passion for education by engaging with others. As a mentor, Adam utilizes teaching techniques that help students exercise active learning, and conversation building, refine and expand their knowledge on given topics, and will encourage growth through learning.

WHY THIS MATTERS:

Our mentorship sessions happen virtually over Zoom. It’s important to get a sense of how someone’s personality can come through on a video call. The best way to ensure your student is excited about learning is to have someone on the other side that they look forward to talking to.
