PRO TIP:

When evaluating whether a mentor would be a good match for your student keep in mind that the greatest leading indicator of success is how well a mentor and their mentee get along.

Questions to ask yourself:

  • Would the student find this person inspiring?
  • Do they share any interests, hobbies, or lived experiences?

Alexandra R. (IN A NUTSHELL)

Hi there! I'm Alexandra, a Georgetown senior studying German and Economics. I’ve always loved learning, and I know firsthand how important the right support and encouragement can be. I also studied in Berlin, where I took courses in German business culture, film, and art history, so I enjoy bringing real-world connections into my lessons. I’m excited to help students build confidence, improve their skills, and achieve their academic goals!

Beyond academics, I’m passionate about finance, marketing, and entrepreneurship. Growing up, I was obsessed with making art (I even submitted an art portfolio to Georgetown), so I love blending analytical thinking with creative strategy. On campus, I work with students through Georgetown Ventures, our student-run startup accelerator, to help young entrepreneurs with branding, website design, and social media marketing.

I believe every student has unique strengths, and my goal is to help them discover their potential in a supportive and encouraging environment. As the oldest of three, and with experience as a part-time nanny and assistant teacher, I’m well-equipped to work with a wide range of students!

Watch Alexandra R. break down a subject they’re passionate about.

WHY THIS MATTERS:

Our mentorship sessions happen virtually over Zoom. It’s important to get a sense of how someone’s personality can come through on a video call. The best way to ensure your student is excited about learning is to have someone on the other side that they look forward to talking to.

GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT (SO FAR)

One of my greatest accomplishments was winning a princess title (first runner-up) in the 2023 Miss German-America competition, an experience that allowed me to embrace and celebrate my heritage. Competitors submitted essays, a resume, a cover letter, and participated in interviews and an audience vote. Representing my community was both an honor and a responsibility, as it gave me the chance to promote German culture and connect with others who share a similar background.

I developed valuable skills in public speaking (I was interviewed on live television for Good Morning America!), leadership, and cultural advocacy. I participated in cultural events that highlighted German heritage across the tri-state area (you might have seen me in the Steuben Day Parade on 5th Avenue in NYC) and build lifelong relationships with individuals who are also passionate about sharing their roots.
