PRO TIP:

When evaluating whether a mentor would be a good match for your student keep in mind that the greatest leading indicator of success is how well a mentor and their mentee get along.

Questions to ask yourself:

  • Would the student find this person inspiring?
  • Do they share any interests, hobbies, or lived experiences?

Alexis V. (IN A NUTSHELL)

Alexis is a junior at USC pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in business with an emphasis in finance and a minor in computer programming (Python, Java). He is a first-generation student who loves to build community and wants everyone to have an opportunity to pursue higher education, regardless of their background. Alexis is a member of multiple organizations at USC that are dedicated to professional development, including the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), Latino Business Student Association (LBSA), and Sports Business Association (SBA). Alexis graduated with a 4.68 GPA in high school as an AP/IB scholar earning college credits by passing AP/IB exams (scored a 5 in AP World History and a 7 in IB History of the Americas). He also played varsity sports (football and basketball) while simultaneously working in his family's restaurant. An avid learner, Alexis is passionate about personal finance, technology, and sports. In 2022, Alexis worked for the NFL during Super Bowl LVI and completed an internship at First Republic Bank as a financial analyst. He also received internship offers from Disney, Amazon, Microsoft, and American Express. Alexis’ extensive industry experience and knowledge will come in handy as he embarks on his next journey at Microsoft in 2023. When he's not studying or engaging in campus activities, Alexis loves to cook, exercise, and play with his Golden Retriever named Nike. When Alexis is back home in the Bay Area, he mentors students from his old high school and offers them advice on the college application process, which is a very pivotal moment in every student's academic career. Alexis hopes to continue making an impact in his community as he inspires those around him to pursue their true passions.
