PRO TIP:

When evaluating whether a mentor would be a good match for your student keep in mind that the greatest leading indicator of success is how well a mentor and their mentee get along.

Questions to ask yourself:

  • Would the student find this person inspiring?
  • Do they share any interests, hobbies, or lived experiences?

Anna P. (IN A NUTSHELL)

Anna is a freshman at Stanford University and a prospective Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies major and Modern Languages minor. She loves talking about the intersection of people’s multifaceted identities and social justice, especially as they pertain to multiethnic backgrounds (she’s passionate about her Chinese-Taiwanese-Mexican-German ethnic heritage) and gender in society. Anna loves conversing about ethics and religion and is obsessed with the Spanish language. Anna graduated as valedictorian from Homestead High School in Cupertino, CA, and was one of two students from her school to receive the Youth International Optimist Award and one of two seniors to be recognized as the school’s “Poster Student.” During her time in high school, Anna launched and produced a video series to highlight her high school’s student athletes and their achievements, and she served as the president of her school’s Women’s Empowerment Club. She is an avid runner and was the captain of her high school cross country and track teams for 3 years and competed all across the West Coast. She also served as a Guidance Tutor at her school and tutored students in Algebra and biology. Anna loves creative projects and spent quarantine teaching herself to design and sew her own prom dress, and she spent her last summer researching Black feminist theory. Now at Stanford, Anna is interning with the Women’s Community Center; continues to work as a senior baker at Antoine’s Cookie Shop; and spends her free time embroidering, sewing, baking, biking, and hanging out with friends.
