PRO TIP:

When evaluating whether a mentor would be a good match for your student keep in mind that the greatest leading indicator of success is how well a mentor and their mentee get along.

Questions to ask yourself:

  • Would the student find this person inspiring?
  • Do they share any interests, hobbies, or lived experiences?

Ellie B. (IN A NUTSHELL)

Ellie Brew is a junior at Stanford University studying Management Science & Engineering and Computer Science. Ellie is passionate about fostering female representation in traditionally male-dominated fields. As the president of Stanford Women in Finance, a club with over 500 active members, she works to bridge the gender gap in finance, inspiring young women to pursue a career in this sector.

Outside of her academic and leadership roles, Ellie is an avid runner who has explored every trail within a 10-mile radius of Stanford’s campus while training for marathons. Her love for the outdoors also inspired a high school passion project, in collaboration with a beloved teacher, to fundraise for land conservation efforts supporting a local indigenous tribe, blending her interests in sustainability and community outreach.

In 2022, Ellie graduated from Sacred Heart Preparatory in Atherton, CA as a National Merit Scholar and AP Scholar with Distinction. She was co-captain of the varsity soccer team and led the Women’s group, a club focusing on gender equity and fostering dialogue around global women’s issues through lunchtime discussions.

Her work experience includes internships at Fortress Investment Group and JMI Equity, where she gained experience in private credit and software growth equity, respectively. She has also conducted research on sustainable water management in the Central Coast of California at Stanford’s Bill Lane Center for the American West.

Whether she is hiking, tackling the NYT crossword puzzle, or experimenting with new recipes with ingredients from the local farmer’s market, Ellie approaches every opportunity with dedication and curiosity. Inspired by her mother’s career in medicine and her father’s advocacy for women in finance, she hopes to continue empowering young women to break barriers and reach their fullest potential.

WHY THIS MATTERS:

Our mentorship sessions happen virtually over Zoom. It’s important to get a sense of how someone’s personality can come through on a video call. The best way to ensure your student is excited about learning is to have someone on the other side that they look forward to talking to.
