PRO TIP:

When evaluating whether a mentor would be a good match for your student keep in mind that the greatest leading indicator of success is how well a mentor and their mentee get along.

Questions to ask yourself:

  • Would the student find this person inspiring?
  • Do they share any interests, hobbies, or lived experiences?

ANYA S. (IN A NUTSHELL)

Anya is a senior at UCLA majoring in Economics and minoring in Accounting. She is originally from Jakarta, Indonesia but has lived abroad in Singapore, Louisiana, Los Angeles, and New York throughout her life.

In High School, Anya was actively involved in her community, and always believed in a learning by doing approach. She tutored Middle School Math in her school’s National Honor Society chapter, and took on a leadership role within her school’s service learning committee. In her senior year, she spearheaded a service passion project, where she taught low-income Indonesian women entrepreneurship skills to create their own self-supporting small business.

Coming to UCLA, one of Anya’s main hobbies has always been creative writing and storytelling, which encouraged her to become an Opinion Columnist and an Editorial Board Member for The Daily Bruin. She also writes for Her Campus, an online magazine targeted towards college females. From her college classes, Anya quickly became interested in a professional career in finance, and immersed herself in UCLA’s robust business community from early on in her college journey. Anya is now the Vice President of The Undergraduate Business Society, where she helps facilitate career fairs and professional resources for the student body. She is also the Vice President of Education at Bruin Value Investing, where she teaches underclassmen finance, valuation, and investing subjects not taught in a traditional degree. This summer, she pursued an investment banking summer internship at Goldman Sachs in New York, and will be returning there full time once she graduates. As a Southeast Asian woman, she is extremely passionate about mentoring underrepresented communities in traditional business and finance roles.

In her free time, Anya loves making (and mostly eating) charcuterie boards, reading Agatha Christie novels, trying new restaurants, journaling, traveling to new places, and thrift shopping. She is so excited to connect with younger students on her love of learning. She has a strong passion for teaching and hopes to encourage students to always think big and stay curious!
