Carson L. (IN A NUTSHELL)
Carson is pursuing a Master’s degree in Computer Science and Art at Dartmouth College, where she completed her undergraduate degree in Studio Art, Digital Art and Human-Centered Design. For her Master’s thesis, she is developing a novel approach to creation and collection of artwork in AR. She is particularly excited to be working with non-digital artists to find meaningful ways to add computation to their process.
She loves making things like interactive digital sculptures, elaborate meals, immersive installations, and anything involving an Altoid tin. Recently she has been obsessed the Fourier transform and its immeasurable impact on society through radio wave communication. How cool is it that the color TV revolution was only possible because of a math technique from the 1800s?
Carson studied product design and has worked with many organizations over the years to create websites, mobile applications, brand identities, and editorial layouts. She led the design program at the DALI Lab, a Dartmouth innovation hub filled with designers, developers and project managers working with external clients to build digital solutions. Her favorite projects have been TactTiles, a modular therapeutic sensory toy for autistic children to self-regulate mood zones, and Flourish, an AI-driven symptom tracking app for patients with chronic illnesses to reclaim control over their health. She looks forward to working with young makers and guiding them to build their dreams!
