PRO TIP:

When evaluating whether a mentor would be a good match for your student keep in mind that the greatest leading indicator of success is how well a mentor and their mentee get along.

Questions to ask yourself:

  • Would the student find this person inspiring?
  • Do they share any interests, hobbies, or lived experiences?

Casey W. (IN A NUTSHELL)

Casey is a 4th-year undergraduate pursuing Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at UC Berkeley. He was recognized as a Regents' and Chancellor's Scholar which is awarded to the top 2% of students. At Berkeley, Casey has done aerodynamic engineering on the Formula SAE racing team, worked as a student supervisor at the on-campus Makerspace, and pursues research in 3D printing. In industry, he has worked at Tesla as a manufacturing engineering intern and Rivian as an equipment engineering intern. In 2019, he graduated from Point Loma High School after leading his robotics team to win the World Championship. He loves to mentor his old robotics team and help them become successful. As a teacher’s assistant for an Intro to Engineering and Design class, he taught 30 students about the engineering design process and how to use CAD. Casey emphasizes a specific teaching method he learned in Boy Scouts called the EDGE method where you educate, demonstrate, guide, and then enable. He is excited to connect with curious students and help them achieve their goals.
