PRO TIP:

When evaluating whether a mentor would be a good match for your student keep in mind that the greatest leading indicator of success is how well a mentor and their mentee get along.

Questions to ask yourself:

  • Would the student find this person inspiring?
  • Do they share any interests, hobbies, or lived experiences?

EDUCATION

2008 - 2021 • Collegiate SchoolNew York, New York
I am passionate about mentoring students in the areas of Writing, History Project, Journalism, Race & Ethnicity, Law / Government / Policy, World Cultures, History, Literature, and Public Speaking.

Charlie H. (IN A NUTSHELL)

Charlie is a student at Vanderbilt University with a double-major in Political Science and History and on course to graduate in 2025. Charlie attended Collegiate School for high school in NYC, focusing on the humanities and partaking in activities including participation in criminal justice reform, newspaper publishing, curation of a sports blog, and playing basketball and soccer competitively. I describe myself as a curious and inquisitive student, translating these skills to my teaching style by letting the student lead. My priority as a mentor is to help people enjoy the material they engage with, as I believe with greater interest comes better results. I also seek to develop more technical writing and reading skills, as well as developing a distinct voice and writing style.

Watch Charlie H. break down a subject they’re passionate about.

WHY THIS MATTERS:

Our mentorship sessions happen virtually over Zoom. It’s important to get a sense of how someone’s personality can come through on a video call. The best way to ensure your student is excited about learning is to have someone on the other side that they look forward to talking to.

GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT (SO FAR)

My greatest achievement was completing my ACL recovery within seven months. As a sophomore in high school I had torn my ACL playing basketball, and my only hope was to be back for my junior year season. With surgery in June and the average ACL recovery roughly 9 months, I knew I'd have to work my tail off to be back on the team by January. However, after PT four days a week for seven months, I was finally healthy enough to play, and I completed my goal.
