PRO TIP:

When evaluating whether a mentor would be a good match for your student keep in mind that the greatest leading indicator of success is how well a mentor and their mentee get along.

Questions to ask yourself:

  • Would the student find this person inspiring?
  • Do they share any interests, hobbies, or lived experiences?

Devine B. (IN A NUTSHELL)

Hi there, I’m Devine (like divine)! I’m originally from rural Minnesota but now attend Harvard University, where I am pursuing a degree in Sociology and a citation in French. In 2019, I graduated in the top 2% of my class at Marshall Senior High School, where I was dance team captain, drum major of the marching band, and a saxophone player. I loved all types of classes, especially chemistry and math, and I spent my time outside of school learning about human behavior. This led me to begin college studying pre-medical neuroscience, but a revitalized passion for society, human interactions, and medical injustices drove me to switch into Sociology at the beginning of my junior year. Right now, I am doing policy research at the New York Health Foundation in NYC and beginning my senior thesis! My Sociology works to dismantle fatphobia, with a particular focus on body image in plus-sized, non-white, young women and femmes, who are often kept out of the very limited research on fatphobia. My previous childhood passions also sparked my renewed interest in the arts and other creative activities. At Harvard, I am a co-Blues Department Head of WHRB, the campus radio station. I am also an editor of two magazines: Liminal Space Magazine, a literary arts publication, and FIG, the campus fashion magazine. I enjoy writing, editing, leading editorials, and working on the graphic design side of publications. In my free time, I am currently enjoying learning how to sew, thrifting, reading, and listening to my favorite podcasts.
