PRO TIP:

When evaluating whether a mentor would be a good match for your student keep in mind that the greatest leading indicator of success is how well a mentor and their mentee get along.

Questions to ask yourself:

  • Would the student find this person inspiring?
  • Do they share any interests, hobbies, or lived experiences?

Ellen H. (IN A NUTSHELL)

Ellen is a senior premed student at Harvard University majoring in sociology with a minor in French. She originally hails from sunny Southern California where she can see the nightly fireworks of Disneyland from her backyard. Ever since she was young, Ellen immersed herself in the arts, whether it be playing her instruments (cello and piano), acrylic painting or pottery! In high school, Ellen stayed active in her school by being the publicist of her student government as well as being the Communications Officer in her Army JROTC program; outside of her campus, she volunteered weekly at a local hospital clinic and played in a youth orchestra. Continuing on her artistic journey in college, Ellen was involved with the Harvard Project International Relations as their Director of Design and Multimedia, creating social media graphics, and merchandise as well as streaming and recording fireside chats and executive seminars for thousands of international delegates. She currently is involved with multiple international diplomacy clubs like Harvard World Model UN, Hacia Democracy, and Harvard National Model United Nations where she not only chairs committees but plans the logistics and administrative details of the conferences. Over this past summer, Ellen was conducting research for the Albert Einstein Institution. Ellen grew up with a myriad of eclectic hobbies, constantly staying busy and learning more. She hopes she can spark a passion for being a jack of all trades!

WHY THIS MATTERS:

Our mentorship sessions happen virtually over Zoom. It’s important to get a sense of how someone’s personality can come through on a video call. The best way to ensure your student is excited about learning is to have someone on the other side that they look forward to talking to.
