PRO TIP:

When evaluating whether a mentor would be a good match for your student keep in mind that the greatest leading indicator of success is how well a mentor and their mentee get along.

Questions to ask yourself:

  • Would the student find this person inspiring?
  • Do they share any interests, hobbies, or lived experiences?

Emma W. (IN A NUTSHELL)

Emma is a rising sophomore at Stanford University where she is exploring her interest in computer science, mathematics, economics, and product design, among other courses of study. Originally from Manhasset, New York, Emma is interested in sustainability, and has conducted research in Costa Rica, Maine, and New York. Through this, she has developed innovative renewable energy designs and studied environmental conservation, prioritizing equity in sustainable development. In high school, Emma was named a Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair finalist and a Regeneron Science Talent Search Scholar for her research. At Stanford, Emma is a part of Stanford Women in Design, where she learns about various design tools, and Engineers for a Sustainable World. Outside of school, Emma loves tennis, music, and fashion. In addition to being captain of her high school’s varsity tennis team, she mentored young students in every subject, teaching them how to play piano and violin as well. She also started a small clothing business, searching for the intersection between fashion and sustainability, and currently works for Stanford’s Roble Reuse, aiming to reduce waste by recycling secondhand clothing. This summer, Emma will be searching for new experiences, interning for a research analyst at a hedge fund and traveling the world. As a mentor for Curious Cardinals, Emma will teach math, computer science, sustainability, and more, and she is excited to help students discover their passions and find what they love.
