PRO TIP:

When evaluating whether a mentor would be a good match for your student keep in mind that the greatest leading indicator of success is how well a mentor and their mentee get along.

Questions to ask yourself:

  • Would the student find this person inspiring?
  • Do they share any interests, hobbies, or lived experiences?

Georgia K. (IN A NUTSHELL)

Georgia is currently in her Junior year at Brown University. She is concentrating in Political Science and just got back from a semester abroad in Amsterdam. Her entire life she has been interested in social justice issues and the political process, and has found her political science classes very relevant to both. Whether learning about mass incarceration or the American democratic system, her academic work at Brown is helping to grow her passion for helping communities in need. Her favorite classes have been small seminars, where she can have enriching discussions with her peers about pressing issues. In 2021 she graduated from Crossroads School for Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles where she was president of the student body. She loved being a part of student government, not only because of the fun in helping to plan student events, but also because she was able to help run and implement important programs to increase activism efforts in the Crossroads community.

She was the president of numerous student clubs in high school, including Everytown for Gun Safety (fought for gun control), A Sense of Home (decorated the homes of aged-out foster children), and Green Wave (worked to help people on the front lines of the climate crisis). She also was a member of the Crossroads Conservatory program where she took acting classes and performed in two musical theater productions. In addition, Georgia was captain of the JV basketball team. At Brown, she enjoys volunteering in her community. She is currently a member of Providence Youth Advocacy where she works at a women and children’s shelters in Providence every week. She loves doing arts and crafts with the children at the shelter, and is grateful for this opportunity to give back to a community that has done so much for the Brown student body. She is part of the Brown Democrats Executive Board as the Election Mobilization Director. In her free time, Georgia enjoys long walks and cooking with her roommates. She has two siblings and three dogs at home in Los Angeles, and loves swimming in the ocean when she is home.
