PRO TIP:

When evaluating whether a mentor would be a good match for your student keep in mind that the greatest leading indicator of success is how well a mentor and their mentee get along.

Questions to ask yourself:

  • Would the student find this person inspiring?
  • Do they share any interests, hobbies, or lived experiences?

Hanna L. (IN A NUTSHELL)

Hanna is a recent graduate from UC Berkeley with a major in Architecture, minor in City Planning, and certificate of Design Innovation. As a Bay Area native, she is passionate about local issues in planning and design, including environmental justice and housing accessibility--issues tackled during her time on the UC Berkeley Solar Decathlon competition team. Apart from designing solar-powered houses, Hanna also created branding for Sustainable Housing at Cal, organized workshops for the American Institute of Architecture Students, built models at an architecture firm in San Francisco, assisted in environmental justice-based research at Berkeley Energy and Resources Group, as well as mentoring throughout her four years in undergrad. At Dublin High School, she was on the Lemelson-MIT Inventeam and Gael Force Robotics as part of the Dublin Engineering and Design Academy. Outside of school, Hanna studied classical singing at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, as well as piano, violin, visual arts, and musical theater. When she's not in maker mode, Hanna loves everything outdoors, and has climbed Half Dome, backpacked the Grand Canyon, trekked the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu and hiked through the Swiss and Austrian Alps--but her favorite part is always stopping to look at cool bugs or mushrooms. Hanna is excited to share her love for designing the built environment with younger students!
