PRO TIP:

When evaluating whether a mentor would be a good match for your student keep in mind that the greatest leading indicator of success is how well a mentor and their mentee get along.

Questions to ask yourself:

  • Would the student find this person inspiring?
  • Do they share any interests, hobbies, or lived experiences?

Jackson R. (IN A NUTSHELL)

Hello future mentees! I'm Jackson, born and raised in New York and a Stanford graduate (go Card!). I went to an all-boys school for 13 years with 29 students in my graduating class, so going to a huge college out in California was an amazing experience for me. I majored in Public Policy and minored in Data Science, and I also received my Master of Public Policy degree with a Health Care Policy concentration.

Outside the classroom, I founded Stanford's chapter of BridgeUSA, an organization focused on using college campuses as a means to depolarize America. I am exceedingly passionate about productive political discourse across the aisle and bridging ideological gaps between people of differing perspectives. I was also an avid member of Stanford in Government - campus' largest nonpartisan government organization - and I was a teaching assistant for Health Care Policy & Reform and Biodesign Fundamentals.

Some fun facts about me:
- I care deeply about mental health and health care innovation. Always down to chat about these topics!
- I'm a basketball junkie and the biggest Knicks fan in the world. Ask me about some of the games I've been lucky enough to attend.
- I love all different kinds of music. My favorite artists span from Kendrick Lamar to Metallica.
- I'm a roller coaster nerd and a self-proclaimed "thrill-seeker."

I can't wait to work with you!

WHY THIS MATTERS:

Our mentorship sessions happen virtually over Zoom. It’s important to get a sense of how someone’s personality can come through on a video call. The best way to ensure your student is excited about learning is to have someone on the other side that they look forward to talking to.

What advice would you give your middle or high school self?

Why does mentorship matter to you?

What is one thing you hope to accomplish in your lifetime?

In simpler terms, I want to be someone who has worked to make people's lives better.

Why did you choose your major?
