Jayla C. (IN A NUTSHELL)
Jayla recently graduated from Princeton University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering and a certificate in Urban Studies. Throughout her studies and independent work, she has focused on how concepts like sustainability and resiliency can be integrated into urban infrastructure. She has completed projects working with a variety of engineering software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Infraworks, Structural Bridge Design, and Space Gass. Through these applications, she has been able to make designs for bridges and buildings that can be used in research to predict the lifespan of new and historic structures. While her studies have been focused on mathematics and physics, she has also taken many humanities courses that show how science and engineering affect society and contribute to different issues like housing discrimination and environmental injustice. She hopes to use her career to continue sustainability efforts and find new and creative ways to make building practices safer for people and for the environment. On campus, she worked as a Residential College Advisor and also participates as Co-Captain of the club golf team, Co-president of the American Society of Civil Engineers chapter, and as an Engineering Interactor to help advise incoming freshmen. Her personal hobbies include writing poetry, taking nature walks, and traveling around the world to observe cool architecture. At Curious Cardinals, she is excited to show students all of the possibilities out there for them in the world of sustainability and engineering, along with making the process of this exploration exciting!
