PRO TIP:

When evaluating whether a mentor would be a good match for your student keep in mind that the greatest leading indicator of success is how well a mentor and their mentee get along.

Questions to ask yourself:

  • Would the student find this person inspiring?
  • Do they share any interests, hobbies, or lived experiences?

Julia M. (IN A NUTSHELL)

Julia is an M.D. Candidate at Wayne State School of Medicine. She gradated from the University of Michigan with a bachelor in science in Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience. While at Michigan, Julia was in a sorority and enjoyed volunteering at the hospital, as well as leading the March of Dimes Club and of course cheering on the Wolverines! During her free time, Julia loves to whip up a homemade pasta, take her dog (Louis) for a walk, hangout with friends, or watch the newest movie. Before college, Julia both swam and played lacrosse in high school, so she values time management. Julia loves to teach in unconventional ways, and is passionate about individualizing education to each mentee. Julia believes the sky is the limit!

WHY THIS MATTERS:

Our mentorship sessions happen virtually over Zoom. It’s important to get a sense of how someone’s personality can come through on a video call. The best way to ensure your student is excited about learning is to have someone on the other side that they look forward to talking to.
