PRO TIP:

When evaluating whether a mentor would be a good match for your student keep in mind that the greatest leading indicator of success is how well a mentor and their mentee get along.

Questions to ask yourself:

  • Would the student find this person inspiring?
  • Do they share any interests, hobbies, or lived experiences?

Kyra K. (IN A NUTSHELL)

Kyra’s favorite topics lie at the Intersection of technology, art, psychology, and language. She is studying Computer Science and Philosophy at Stanford. From 2013 through 2019, through a not-for-profit program she founded called KEM Creative Studios, Kyra taught technical art classes to children in transitional living situations across Los Angeles with $5000 in funding from the Dragon Kim Fellowship. This experience is what initially sparked her love of teaching, and she has since had the pleasure of teaching visual art, graphic design, user experience and user interface design, computer science, and more. Since graduating from high school, Kyra has worked several jobs in product design, product management, product development, branding, marketing, graphic design, and illustration. She is the Co-Director of Design Education for Stanford Womxn in Design (SWID), where she co-launched the SWID Consultant Certification Program, a comprehensive course designed to prepare Stanford students to work in the design industry. She also helped with the launch of the SWID Design Consulting Group, a program that gives experienced design students at Stanford the opportunity to partner with design companies as design consultants and project managers. In addition to math, physics, and Spanish, Kyra generally loves teaching all things creative, from art to coding to storytelling.
