PRO TIP:

When evaluating whether a mentor would be a good match for your student keep in mind that the greatest leading indicator of success is how well a mentor and their mentee get along.

Questions to ask yourself:

  • Would the student find this person inspiring?
  • Do they share any interests, hobbies, or lived experiences?

Linus B. (IN A NUTSHELL)

Hi! My name is Linus Bray, and I am an undergraduate at Northwestern University! I am an international student hailing from London, England, so I hope to bring my British knowledge and experiences to the table. Although I grew up in the UK, the majority of my family live in America.

I'm an avid sportsman, and I have played academy level for Harlequin Rugby Club and I also used to be a part of the Chelsea FC pathway. Currently, I am a member of Northwestern's Rugby Club. Watching and analysing sports (of all kinds) is a big hobby of mine - I support Spurs, Pittsburgh teams, and both the USMNT and the England Lions but when they play I'm English.

My primary academic interest lies within the social sciences realm, so I find social movements, issues pertaining to human rights, and macroeconomic policies particularly fascinating! Social movements such as Black Lives Matter, #MeToo, Reclaim The Streets, and the Arab Spring, have enabled me to grasp a greater understanding of both my identity, and ability to influence and enact positive change.

Outside of the classroom and sports pitches, I have spent time volunteering in Calais and Dunkirk refugee camps, and most recently, I travelled to Rwanda to engage in a water project which focused on water security, its relationship with inequality, and potential methods to increase economic development.

To relax I love to watch TV shows such as Game of Thrones, Ozark, Top Boy, Peaky Blinders, and Stranger Things. A few of my favourite movies include Hacksaw Ridge, Django Unchained, Whiplash, The Dark Knight Rises, and any Ocean's film!

Watch Linus B. break down a subject they’re passionate about.

WHY THIS MATTERS:

Our mentorship sessions happen virtually over Zoom. It’s important to get a sense of how someone’s personality can come through on a video call. The best way to ensure your student is excited about learning is to have someone on the other side that they look forward to talking to.
