PRO TIP:

When evaluating whether a mentor would be a good match for your student keep in mind that the greatest leading indicator of success is how well a mentor and their mentee get along.

Questions to ask yourself:

  • Would the student find this person inspiring?
  • Do they share any interests, hobbies, or lived experiences?

Maia W. (IN A NUTSHELL)

Maia is senior at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, where she is majoring in Psychology and Sociology, with a concentration in crime, law and justice. She is from Miami, where she plans to return after college and law school, which she will begin in the fall. In high school, Maia was very involved in different community service efforts, including her own project where she worked with her local hospital to assist the patients there, along with playing club and school soccer throughout her life. At Duke, Maia is involved in all things pre-law, where she works as a research assistant with a professor at Duke Law, Durham Legal Aid, and was the president of the pre law fraternity at Duke. Maia interned at the Public Defender's Office in Miami, the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, and the New York State Attorney General's Office, all helping to further explore her interest and passion in criminal law. In her free time, Maia loves to go on runs in nature and spend time with friends and family. She holds a strong belief in the importance and impact that the little things have, and is excited to work with other students to explore their passions.
