PRO TIP:

When evaluating whether a mentor would be a good match for your student keep in mind that the greatest leading indicator of success is how well a mentor and their mentee get along.

Questions to ask yourself:

  • Would the student find this person inspiring?
  • Do they share any interests, hobbies, or lived experiences?

EDUCATION

2015 - 2017 • Georgetown Preparatory SchoolNorth Bethesda, Maryland
2017 - 2022 • Stanford UniversityStanford, California
I am passionate about mentoring students in the areas of Algebra II, Algebra I, Geometry, Precalculus / Trigonometry, Calculus, Physics, French, German, and Computer Science.

Matthew H. (IN A NUTSHELL)

I'm a retired Stanford swimmer and graduate now working on a NASA contract (FDSS-III) to develop technologies that ARTEMIS astronauts will use to navigate the surface of the moon. In a typical day you can find me writing code, double-checking equations, or teaching my self more mathematics and physics.

Looking back, I believe that I made the most progress in my academic and professional journey when I got help from my mentors. Drawing from my experience, my goals as a mentor are to:

• Help students explore their passion in engineering or physics

• Help students find opportunities to participate in these fields early on

• Give students the mindset and skills they will need to become a physicist or engineer

I rarely get tired of thinking about or discussing physics and engineering, so if you have ever wondered if you might enjoy either of these topics, I encourage you to reach out to me!

Watch Matthew H. break down a subject they’re passionate about.

WHY THIS MATTERS:

Our mentorship sessions happen virtually over Zoom. It’s important to get a sense of how someone’s personality can come through on a video call. The best way to ensure your student is excited about learning is to have someone on the other side that they look forward to talking to.
