PRO TIP:

When evaluating whether a mentor would be a good match for your student keep in mind that the greatest leading indicator of success is how well a mentor and their mentee get along.

Questions to ask yourself:

  • Would the student find this person inspiring?
  • Do they share any interests, hobbies, or lived experiences?

Mehdi L. (IN A NUTSHELL)

Mehdi is a senior at Stanford pursuing a major in Earth Systems, specifically focusing on ways energy can be used to combat the climate crisis and strengthen environmental equity. Pursuing such an interdisciplinary major means that Mehdi has had experience with college-level math, physics, biology, chemistry, and English, though his passion lies where any of those fields can intersect with solutions to the climate crisis. Outside of his major, Mehdi has a large interest in tech, minoring in Computer Science and spending a lot of his free time reading up on recent developments, both in and out of the energy sector. Outside of academics, Mehdi spends as much time outside as he can, working on problem sets in Stanford's many fields or watching lectures from sunny cafe tables. He spent most of his junior year interning at Dashboard.Earth, is a climate communications start-up designed to make having an environmental impact easily digestible and accessible. He is now a Structured Finance intern at Cypress Creek Renewables, one of the country's largest solar development companies, working to finance large-scale solar projects nationwide. Mehdi graduated Cum Laude from Sacramento Country Day, where he moved after spending 10 years at an international school in Belgium. In high school, Mehdi was an integral part of both the school's newspaper and Mock Trial team, becoming Editor-in-Chief of the former and an attorney/team captain of the latter. His senior year, the mock trial team won their Sacramento County competition, one of the most competitive in the state. Having struggled to find ways to transform his passion for the environment into something concrete while in High School, Mehdi is extremely excited to help guide students with that same passion to find their own path toward environmental impact!
