PRO TIP:

When evaluating whether a mentor would be a good match for your student keep in mind that the greatest leading indicator of success is how well a mentor and their mentee get along.

Questions to ask yourself:

  • Would the student find this person inspiring?
  • Do they share any interests, hobbies, or lived experiences?

I am passionate about mentoring students in the areas of Journalism, Philosophy, Women & Gender Studies, Literature, Creative Writing, and Italian.

Melanie K. (IN A NUTSHELL)

Melanie graduated from Stanford University in 2023 with a BA/MA in English and Italian, and is an incoming English PhD student at Brown University. She also has experience working in publishing, marketing and journalism, and would be eager to work with students interested in any form of writing -- whether creative or research-driven. Additionally, Melanie is an avid equestrian; she was the captain of the Stanford Equestrian team for two years and grew up competing in the California hunter/jumper show circuit. She loves working with students of all ages, and is excited to share her love of animals and storytelling with Curious Cardinals!

Watch Melanie K. break down a subject they’re passionate about.

WHY THIS MATTERS:

Our mentorship sessions happen virtually over Zoom. It’s important to get a sense of how someone’s personality can come through on a video call. The best way to ensure your student is excited about learning is to have someone on the other side that they look forward to talking to.
