PRO TIP:

When evaluating whether a mentor would be a good match for your student keep in mind that the greatest leading indicator of success is how well a mentor and their mentee get along.

Questions to ask yourself:

  • Would the student find this person inspiring?
  • Do they share any interests, hobbies, or lived experiences?

Michael C. (IN A NUTSHELL)

Michael is a junior at Stanford University pursuing a major in Aeronautics and Astronautics and a minor in Computer Science. Academically, Michael is interested in math, physics, mechanical engineering, foreign languages, and creative writing. When he isn’t in class, Michael serves as Stanford Class President for the class of 2024. He is also a counselor for Stanford Kesem, a member of the Stanford Space Initiative on the satellites team, and a water polo player for the Stanford Club team. Michael has interned as a research assistant for the Extreme Environment Microsystems Laboratory which focuses on developing super-materials in space! Here Michael synthesized and tested nano-structures that will be sent to the International Space Station to aid the future of deep-space travel. Michael graduated as valedictorian from Long Beach Polytechnic High School out of a graduating class of over 1,000 students. In high school, he served as Student Body President, a member of the school’s theater department and improv team, and a varsity swim member. Michael also served as a non-profit founder whose goal was to supply free school materials, toiletries, and clothes to homeless or socioeconomically-disadvantaged students. When Michael isn’t designing rockets or organizing community events, he enjoys gaming (a lot), swimming, watching anime, playing sports, trying new food, and getting boba with his friends. Michael is very eager to share his excitement about space and science-related subjects with younger students and teach them the ins and outs of becoming an amazing scientist and engineer!
