PRO TIP:
When evaluating whether a mentor would be a good match for your student keep in mind that the greatest leading indicator of success is how well a mentor and their mentee get along.
Questions to ask yourself:
- Would the student find this person inspiring?
- Do they share any interests, hobbies, or lived experiences?
EDUCATION
Watch Oluwatobi O. break down a subject they’re passionate about.
WHY THIS MATTERS:
Our mentorship sessions happen virtually over Zoom. It’s important to get a sense of how someone’s personality can come through on a video call. The best way to ensure your student is excited about learning is to have someone on the other side that they look forward to talking to.
GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT (SO FAR)
As President of the Fashion Industry Association (FIA) – the largest fashion organization on campus, I planned and hosted the Spring 2022 FIA Fashion Show.
This was a fully student-run fashion show, with designers from USC, FIDM, and LAFW. The show sold out with over 500 guests in attendance. I had my hands on every aspect of the show: Casting, advertising, outreach, venue, production planning, set design, budgeting, directing, communications, and planning every single minute of the show from start to finish. These experiences pushed me to be a creative problem solver, an entrepreneur, a quick learner, and an effective leader. There are many courses that can teach you these skills, but the hands-on experience of hundreds of students relying on me allowed me to hone such skills under immense pressure.
