PRO TIP:

When evaluating whether a mentor would be a good match for your student keep in mind that the greatest leading indicator of success is how well a mentor and their mentee get along.

Questions to ask yourself:

  • Would the student find this person inspiring?
  • Do they share any interests, hobbies, or lived experiences?

Samuel C. (IN A NUTSHELL)

Sam, a New York City native, is currently pursuing a degree in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics at Brown University. As an avid believer in the value of public speaking, Sam participated in a number of speech and debate clubs at Trinity, the high school from which he graduated in 2021. Most notably, Sam was the president of the Trinity Model UN team and, additionally, ran a Model UN program for middle school students at Harlem Academy. Sam also worked as the Co-Editor-in-Chief for a school publication, served on the student senate, sang with a school a capella group and the Young People’s Chorus of New York City, and was a member of the Trinity Gay Straight Alliance. Sam loves the outdoors and has spent a number of summers working as a sleepaway camp counselor in Southern New Hampshire. Sam’s ability to engage creatively, empathetically, and enthusiastically with campers was acknowledged by the camp director when he received the summer 2022 “Counselor of the Summer” award from among 40 other cabin leaders. Sam has a creative approach to teaching and understands that learning neither starts nor ends in a classroom. To that end, Sam took a semester off from college last fall in order to work as the Campaign Manager for a successful State Senate campaign. Between his classes and his extracurricular work on film projects and political initiatives, Sam enjoys baking, running, hosting dance parties with his friends, and writing screenplays. Sam believes that learning, above all, should be fun, and he is excited to help students become engaged, passionate scholars!
