Sofia P. (IN A NUTSHELL)
Sofia is a Junior at Stanford University pursuing a B.S. in Human Biology with a concentration in Global Public Health and Epidemiology for Social Justice while on the pre-medical track. She is also pursuing a minor in Modern Languages (Spanish and Mandarin). Growing up, Sofia was really passionate about community service in the healthcare realm after volunteering for Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in the Pediatric Inpatient Center. At Stanford, Sofia is the President of Los Salseros de Stanford, Stanford’s only salsa dance team, and is also a member of Stanford Talisman, an acapella group on campus. She is also a research assistant in the Stanford Cardiovascular Medicine Department, working with identifying genes that cause genetic cardiovascular diseases. She is involved in the Pacific Free Clinic as a Spanish Interpreter, translating patient-doctor interactions for majority undocumented, uninsured members of San Jose and the greater South Bay Area. She also uses her Spanish as a part of Stanford Habla, a club that aims to match Stanford Students with Stanford employees to teach English lessons. As a mentor at Curious Cardinals, Sofia hopes to provide mentorship for students who are passionate about a specific topic (medicine, music, languages, or other topics), but may not know exactly how to explore that topic!
