PRO TIP:

When evaluating whether a mentor would be a good match for your student keep in mind that the greatest leading indicator of success is how well a mentor and their mentee get along.

Questions to ask yourself:

  • Would the student find this person inspiring?
  • Do they share any interests, hobbies, or lived experiences?

Weston G. (IN A NUTSHELL)

Weston is a recent graduate of Stanford University, where he majored in Biology (Microbiology and Immunology) and minored in Psychology. During his undergraduate career, he explored his curiosities through research. Coming to Stanford with a lifelong interest in medicine and fungi, he helped conduct research on both the human gut microbiome and fungal community composition. When the pandemic struck in 2020, he joined the Stanford iGEM Team, where he along with seven other undergrads aimed to develop an environmental nucleic acid test kit capable of detecting COVID-19 in hopes of increasing accessibility to an accurate diagnostic. In addition to research, he was a teaching assistant for Stanford's public speaking class, ENGR 103, where he helped fellow peers communicate their ideas confidently. He is passionate about teaching and using education as a means to empower others. In his free time, he enjoys cooking, playing euphonium and piano, and putting the “fun” in fungi through mushroom foraging. He is excited to connect with you and help you explore your own interests through Curious Cardinals!
